DEADLY EARTHQUAKE IN CHINA!! 地震襲青海
At least 400 people have died after an earthquake measuring almost 7 on the richter scale hit China's western Qinghai province. Officials say thousands of others may have been wounded and many buildings including schools have been destroyed. Rescue efforts are being hindered by landslides and debris blocking the roads. Aid workers say the death toll is likely to rise though survivors have been pulled from the rubble.

在環保人士試圖為遏止氣候變遷運動注入新活力的同時，從「雪梨歌劇院」(Sidney Opera House)到紫禁城、燈光閃爍的拉斯維加斯大道(Las Vegas Strip)等全球著名地標，27日將進入一片漆黑。今年連推特(Twitter)和臉書(Facebook)用戶，也都能藉由申請自動關閉螢幕的特殊裝置，響應活動。
這次「地球一小時」(Earth Hour)活動，全球將有125個國家、無數個城市以及數以億計家庭響應這項活動。「地球一小時」活動2007年創始於雪梨，至今已獲得一般大眾以及谷歌(Google)、可口可樂(Coca-Cola)和麥當勞(McDonald's)等無數大型企業的普遍支持。今年「地球一小時」活動進入第4年，響應人數料將創紀錄。
澳洲為這項活動揭開序幕，包括雪梨歌劇院、海港大橋(Harbour Bridge)在晚間8時30分(台灣時間5點30分)，與數以百萬計澳洲家庭一起熄燈。
活動由亞洲開始後，繼續由中東地區、歐洲、非洲和美洲接棒。全球共有1,200個著名地標，也將以同樣的方式，於當地時間晚上8時30分熄燈。北京紫禁城、鳥巢體育館與中國數十個城市也參與地球一小時活動，貓熊「美蘭」擔任這項活動大使。
台灣今年響應活動的政府機關包括總統府、監察院、行政院等，商業大樓有台北101、花旗大樓、新光摩天大樓等，還有台北市市定古蹟等。
在歐洲，英國倫敦大笨鍾(Big Ben)與英國足球曼聯隊(Manchester United)球場「老特拉福球場」(OldTrafford)，也將與法國巴黎聖母院(Notre Dame)和羅馬特萊維噴泉(Trevi Fountain)等歐洲知名景點，一起響應這項活動。
在美國，共有約30個州參與活動，拉什摩爾山(Mount Rushmore)、舊金山的金門大橋(Golden Gate Bridge)以及芝加哥高達110層的西爾斯大廈（Sears Tower），屆時都將一片漆黑。
